Contamination Detection

Chemical filters are used in a wide variety of applications for the contamination control of ambient and circulating air. Monitoring and filtration are usually done in the ppb range. The laboratory of M+W Products offers comprehensive service for testing new as well as proofing of chemical filter materials that have to meet the highest quality requirements. The development of filter materials is focused on removal of all kinds of acidic, basic and organic substances. Our laboratory is equipped with several test rigs and air handling units with precise air conditioning for filter tests:

  • Dosage of various test substances for simulating relevant cleanroom contaminations (e.g. SO2, H2S, NH3, NOX, TMB, ozone and others) can be realized
  • Testing of several filter materials: modified charcoal, ion exchange raisins, modified inorganic adsorbent materials and others
  • Online measurement devices as well as offline sampling (impinger method and adsorbent tubes) are available

Filter Testing & Development

In collaboration with M+W Products, the laboratory supports the development and testing of new air filtering materials and concepts. The available test rigs and installations with air handling units with adjustable air conditioning (temperature, humidity) enable reliable and standardized testing environments for various air filter systems.

The filter testing program provides results about:

  • Advanced sampling procedure to handle higher pressure and flow
  • Determination of removal efficiency
  • Filter capacity
  • Remaining life time test after a time period of using within its life time cycle
  • Filter stability
  • Ability for regeneration
  • Outgassing behavior of filter materials and components

Filter Test installations

The laboratory of M+W Products offers comprehensive service for testing new as well as regenerated filter materials that have to meet the highest quality requirements. The development of filter materials is focused on removal of all kinds of airborne molecular contaminations (AMCs) like volatile acids, bases and organic substances. Our laboratory is equipped with several test rigs and air handling units with precise air conditioning for filter tests. The available test rigs and installations with air handling units with adjustable air conditioning (temperature, humidity) enable reliable and standardized testing environments for various air filter systems.

Filter media test rigs for material development

Our filter media test rigs allow testing of various filter materials, e.g. modified charcoal, ion exchange raisins, modified inorganic adsorbent materials and others. The setup allows for dosage of different substances like SO2, H2S, NH3, NOX, TMB, toluene, ozone. Other substances can be applied on request.

Filter test installation (large) – air handling units

Our air handling unit is used for testing of complete filter panels. The testing e.g. includes the measurement of filter capacity and the determination of removal efficiency. An advanced sampling procedure is used to handle higher pressure and flow.

Specification:

  • Air velocity: 3 – 200 m³/h
  • Dosage volume: 20 – 10.000 ppb
  • Temperature: 22°C +/- 2°C

Filter test installation (small)

Our experts use the filter test installations for measuring the filtration efficiency and filter capacity.

Pressure drop measurement installation

The installation setup is used for filter material testing and the qualification air filters panels. It is used for the analysis of pressure drop behavior of new and used air filters.

  • Air velocity: 200 – 1.200 m³/h
  • Dosage volume: 20 – 1.000 ppb

Filter outgassing test installation

It is primarily used for the investigation of outgassing behavior of new and used air filter materials. It enhances the qualification of new air filters.

  • No dosage

M+W Products develops highly efficient filter material for cost-effective make-up air, return air and process air filtrations. The development of regenerative filter based on activated carbon material as well as on ion exchangers enables our customers to use filters several times. This helps to reduce process waste and costs.
