M+W Benelux joins Green IT Amsterdam Region
M+W Benelux has joined the consortium Green IT Amsterdam Region, which is focused at creating a “Green IT Economy”. M+W Benelux, as a part of the global engineering and construction company M+W Group, offers services for the IT and Telecom Industries, ranging from consulting, design, engineering, construction management to maintenance operation for datacenters and mission critical facilities.
Both M+W Benelux and the consortium Green IT (www.greenitamsterdam.nl) see the joining of M+W Benelux as an important contribution. M+W Group is a specialist for the engineering and construction of highly energy-efficient datacenters worldwide and with M+W Benelux as a local subsidiary also serves the Benelux data-center market.
In cooperation with the various participants and partners of the consortium Green IT, M+W Benelux aims to build up a network, work on interesting projects within several focus areas and exchange knowledge with other participants on issues such as new cooling concepts for datacenters.
Besides the economic interest, M+W Benelux’ commitment to Green IT is based on the desire to make a contribution to the overall goal of the consortium and the city of Amsterdam: reducing the CO2 emissions in the IT business. The company aims to do so by further developing their renewable energy concepts, energy efficient cooling solutions and optimized infrastructure and network solutions in cooperation with the consortium Green IT and its participants.
The consortium consists of various companies from the ICT sector and energy sector, regional authorities, knowledge institutes and related companies. The activities of the consortium focus on six areas for which participants work out a program of specific projects and invest time and knowledge. These six areas are Green Collars, Green Software, Green Ocean, Amsterdam Clouds, Green Data Port and Smart Grid City.
The city of Amsterdam has set an ambitious goal to reduce CO2 emission by 40% by 2025. Supporting the effort, the city’s climate program, “Nieuw Amsterdams Klimaat”, is focused at significantly improving energy efficiency, while at the same time strengthening the innovative and economic potential of the ICT sector in the region. As a direct result, the consortium Green IT Amsterdam was founded.
