Australia: Targeting LEED Gold for Data CenterGlobal Switch has appointed
M+W Group in partnership with Cockram Construction to design, construct, fitout, test and commission the first stage of a new data center facility in Australia. The project, known as Sydney East, is being constructed on the Global Switch Sydney Campus adjacent to Global
Switch’s existing Sydney West data center, which is one of the largest data centers in the Southern Hemisphere. Strategically positioned on the western edge of the Sydney Central Business District and City Center the Sydney East Data Center will offer operational flexibility for tenants and easy access to carrier options, combined with highly resilient and scalable technical space and power solutions within a network dense and low latency environment.
The 6-storey building will deliver 24,000 sqm of space with 32 MW utility power supply. The first stage which constitutes about one third of the total project will go operational in 2014.
Cutting-edge environmentally sustainable design initiatives will be employed targeting a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold rating. Global Switch is the leading
owner and operator of wholesale carrier neutral data center space in Europe and Asia Pacific and operates 290,000 sqm of data centers across seven locations in Europe and Asia Pacific. Its first Australian data center, Sydney West, was opened in 2002.
